We don't sell saunas, and we don't own these five (yet — ownership reviews are on our roadmap). Every price and spec below was pulled from the seller's live product page on July 9, 2026 and linked at the point of claim. Some links are affiliate links — they never change our rankings. Full methodology.
Every "best barrel sauna" list you'll find is written by someone selling you one. The dealers rank their own catalogs. The magazines skim spec sheets. We did something different: we built a sourced database of what these things actually cost to get running — the sticker price and the shipping, the electrician, and the pad it sits on — with every number dated and linked.

What you're actually buying: the six components that determine price and lifespan. (Illustration, not to scale.)
The number nobody puts in the headline: total cost to first sauna session
A barrel sauna's sticker price is 70–85% of what you'll actually spend. Four line items:
1. The sauna. $3,999–$8,140 for the models above. 2. Shipping. Wildly inconsistent: Sauna Kit Co and ALEKO ship free (curbside LTL); SaunaLife's standard rate via Haven of Heat is $950. On a $7k sauna, shipping policy is a four-figure swing. 3. The electrician. The ambush. Electric heaters are hardwired on a dedicated 240V circuit — 30A for a typical 6kW, 40–50A for 8kW+ (breaker sizing varies by code interpretation; heater manual and electrician govern). Field Mag's writer reported paying $1,700 for her hookup. Quote first, order second. Wood-fired stoves skip the electrician but add chimney installation and local burn-rule questions. 4. The base. Concrete, pavers, or rated deck — a 6-person Redwood weighs 900 lbs empty; a SaunaLife EE8G is 1,345 lbs before people and water.
What Will Your Sauna Actually Cost? (TCO Calculator)
Line items marked "plan" are planning estimates for budgeting only — sourced anchors: $950 freight (havenofheat.com, 7/9/2026), $1,700 real-world electrical report (fieldmag.com), $1,195 heater floor (thesaunaheater.com & mysaunaworld.com, 7/9/2026). Get real quotes before ordering.
The five saunas, honestly
Best Overall Value
Redwood Outdoors 6-Person Barrel — $6,299
The value math is simple: one of only two saunas here that includes the heater, and not a token one — you pick from Harvia 6kW up to a Virta 10.5kW at configuration. Thermally modified hemlock (heated above 400°F, no chemicals) resists rot without staining and weathers silver-grey if you let it. Glass door, rocks, shingles, and backrests all in the box; Redwood claims assembly in "just a few hours using basic construction skills" — read that as a solid weekend with two people. The catch: the 1-year sauna warranty is the shortest here after ALEKO.
Almost Heaven Salem 2-Person — $4,036 (sale; reg. $4,485)
The one to buy if it's mostly the two of you. Made in the USA, Harvia 6kW included, and — the sleeper detail — a limited lifetime warranty, strongest in this guide alongside SaunaLife. HSA/FSA eligibility is a meaningful tax-advantaged discount on a ~$4k purchase if you qualify. Tradeoff: 6–8 week lead time. Almost Heaven is Harvia-owned and also supplies Costco's barrel saunas — if you see a club deal on a Duet or Morgan, it's the same builder (we haven't verified current Costco pricing, so chase that lead yourself).
The one you buy for the glass: panoramic floor-to-ceiling front windows and a half-moon rear window. Canadian-made, made to order in 5–6 weeks. Two honest cautions: the heater is not included — budget from $1,195 for a quality 6kW electric — and the retailer's listing contradicts itself on capacity (2–6 vs 4–6 people); we'd call it a comfortable 4.
Handcrafted in Northern Europe with the beefiest walls here, tempered-bronze-glass front, Wi-Fi LED lighting, dual floor drains. This is also the sauna where the electrician line item is largest — the recommended 8kW package wants a dedicated 50-amp circuit. At $8,140 plus heater plus (normally) $950 shipping, you're realistically into five figures all-in. Right buy if you want the nicest object in the category; wrong buy if you're optimizing dollars-per-degree.
ALEKO Anémona 3-4 Person — $3,999 (sale; reg. $4,999)
The honest budget play: a complete package — heater, stones, bucket, ladle, timer, hygrometer, even roof shingles — under $4k with free shipping. The tradeoffs are real: pine instead of cedar or thermowood (softer, needs more care outdoors), thinner walls, smaller heater, 1-year warranty. As a first sauna or a "will we actually use this?" test at half the price of the premium options, it's rational. As a decade-long backyard fixture, the wood choice will show.

Before you order: the 4-question checklist
1. Where's your 240V? If the panel is far from the site, trenching and wire can rival the heater's cost. Quote first. 2. Permit? Structures under 120 sq ft commonly skip structural permits in much of the US (some counties allow up to 200), but electrical work on a dedicated circuit typically doesn't — and rules are hyper-local. One call to your building department beats one assumption (guidance: Cedarbrook Sauna). 3. What's it sitting on? Concrete, pavers, or rated deck; flat and level is non-negotiable for a barrel. 4. Heater included — actually? Two of our five include it. For the rest, quality 6kW heaters start around $1,195, and models needing a separate wall control add $300–$1,300 — see our independent heater guide.
